I'm souling for summer: For white-noise crickets Harping lullabies Through sweet-scented air, Sun-baked and night-cooled, To my bedroom upstairs. Wafting through windows Left like oven doors Gently cracked - Earth's pleasing aroma, Summer's soothing embrace, It's caress on my sheets. I'm longing for fires. For camp chairs by fire. For ambiencing flames Silent, then popping Like connect-the-dots Jack-in-the-box, Drawing your gaze To the lesser lights, And the noiseless, seeping, Spilling ink-spill; The pin-pricked, night-lit, Night-light summer sky. ~ Sierra Westerholm Hello! And a warm and appreciative welcome to new subscribers! If you read my previous poem, you'll know I was/am pretty excited for Spring! Well, what usually follows is longing for all the warm weather that is soon (hopefully!) to consistently come (as of yet, we're still in the back-and-forth mood swings of Pennsylvania weather). I wrote this poem one night in bed, and at first (because I've been reading the works of some classic poets), I felt inspired to maybe try it out in a more restricted form, rather than my usual free verse. But for some reason, it just wasn't working out, and I felt like it was losing a lot of its original inspiration, and after scratching, and re-writing, and re-working, I decided to give it up, and found myself going back to the free-verse lines I originally wrote. It's not as perfect as I would've liked, but, hopefully y'all can forgive the imperfections, and maybe give yourself some summer-fever too! ;)

Oh this is a good summer feel poem Sierra!🌞
Sierra, we are juuuuust into Spring here in Seattle but your recollections of Summer-to-come sound just about right.
I especially found these lines not only tantalizing but perfectly descriptive of the night sky in Summer:
"And the noiseless, seeping,
Spilling ink-spill;
The pin-pricked, night-lit,"
Well done!
